A STORY OF ONE MAN'S ATTEMPT TO KEEP FIT
About three years ago Jan and I were driving through the Rockies north of Banff when we met a senior citizen, name of Joe. Joe was an American. As a young man he had been in the USAF and was asked to sign on again when his initial assignment ended. The Vietnam war was starting and Joe did not fancy what the future held. So he declined. His best friend went to Vietnam and was killed. Joe set off on his bike around the USA to work his emotions out of his system. He vowed that when he retired he would repeat his journey. When we met up he was 2,300kms into his venture and logging his story on his website--ridejoeride. He inspired me to give long distance cycling a try. And when I decided to set up my own log, what else could I call it except ridejohnride. I am going to start with an apology: It will rapidly become apparent that I am not an IT expert, and so I will apologise at the outset for, what is, a website by an amateur. But I hope that it will tell the story
