22 July. Day 53. 6547 Kms.

I really felt that I was making progress. You cannot help but have some self doubts on a trip like this:will I stay fit?;what if the knees give me trouble?;what if the bike breaks?;what if I have an accident? (always a live possibility), and so on. But now I could smell the sea.

Not a lot of room for cyclists..

I headed off through NS on the 'Sunrise Trail'. Well, you have got to hand it to the Canadians, they know how to set up practical jokes. I rode for hours in the rain. Eventually, I called in at the tourist office of a small town and the kind lady told me that there was a campsite in 5 kms; 10 kms later I was still nowhere near it and so I put up camp in the rain behind a small church at the side of the highway.

Fortunately there was an old, abandoned long drop in the woods and I had somewhere dry to leave the panniers.  Very eco-friendly these long-drops.
