25 July. Day 56. The first Rest Day

The rain continued as I pedalled on along the North coast of Nova Scotia. As I said in my introduction, I have spent my life in the AirForce and so I know what military training is all about. I can fairly judge then that the situation I was facing was, you might say, character forming. In fact it was b****y tough. I was on my own, tired, wet through, and wondering how I got myself into this situation. And I volunteered! But, bit by bit the miles (or kilometers, as you prefer) went by and I just knew that I was going to make it.

A major milestone--crossing into Cape Breton

Finally I reached the end of mainland Canada: the ferry to Newfoundland from North Sydney. I don't mind admitting that I was feeling quite pleased with myself and I smugly viewed the motorists on the ferry with contempt...weenies!  And I had not left a carbon footprint!
