27 July. Day 58. 6900 Kms. Arrived St John's!

Across the sea to Argentia where I treated myself to a b&b for the night. One day left. I was up early for that final day and on the bike into the fog. Nothing, not fog, not rain, not moose, not anything would have stopped me on day 58. It was a hard push for St John's but finally I was nearly there.

I felt almost tearful as I rode down to the sea. Could I really have pedalled almost 7000kms? I had done it. I asked a couple strolling along the dockside to take a picture. 'Where had I come from?', they asked. Casually I told them that I had just cycled across Canada from Vancouver. They were duly impressed.

Yeh! The Pacific to the Atlantic

What made my arrival special was the welcome I got when I checked into the hostel (I will always choose a hostel over a hotel--so much more fun and so much more friendly). The rum came out and Bill, who ran the place, made me feel as if I had conquered a mountain. Well, maybe I had. ST JOHN'S NEWFOUNDLAND.
