1 June. Day 2. 193kms

Pedalling through the Rockies was quite tough. As I mentioned, this was my first attempt at a trip like this and what nobody told me was that with full panniers it was a bit like pushing a wheelbarrow full of rocks up hill. But, I tell you, at 800 calories an hour this is a sure fire way to shed a few pounds.

Wow, This is tough going!
I have lived all over the world and I reckon that the Canadians are some of the nicest, most hospitable people you can meet. Everywhere, I was invited to camp on the lawn, join the BBQ, have a beer and given every assistance. I was just plain helped along throughout the ride. I never had a single bad incident the whole trip.

Camped in the bush.  More friendly Canadians

If I could find a campsite I used it ,but often it was just a case of hunkering down wherever I could. And sometimes I spent a pretty wet night. This one was under a bridge-but at least it was a shelter.
